atmosphere first, and a few things to keep in mind
Tips and links

Welcome cottage quests
Congratulations, you have chosen the best possible holiday destination. Check the reasons here.
In Särkisalo, people are even happier because we are surrounded by the great archipelago. We can enjoy varied views of the sea every day. The sunrises and sunsets are different every day.
Pets are welcome, but please bring your own bedding for them. Pets are not allowed on beds or sofas. There are many bird nests near the cottages and along the shoreline, so please do not let your pet run free. More about the nature and surroundings.
Cottage booking
You can book a cottage through our booking calendar. We will contact you by email and send a confirmation link. In spring and autumn, we’ll also ask if you need a boat. The invoice will be sent by email six weeks before the start of your stay.
The cottage is available from 16.00 on your arrival day until 12:00 on your departure day. Please do not arrive earlier, as early arrivals and late departures disrupt our carefully planned maintenance schedule.
Each cottage has a cottage book with helpful instructions. You can find the booking terms and conditions here.

Feel at Home
Please bring your own bed linen unless you choose to rent it. For hygiene reasons, sleeping in a sleeping bag is not allowed.
If you choose to do the final cleaning yourself in the summer, a good rule is to leave the cottage just as clean as it was when you arrived.
The nearest grocery store is at the Perniö roundabout, there you will find a good selection of special dietary needs, too. Tiiranta also sells basic food items.
Cottage equipments
Each cottage has a detailed list of equipments on its web page. There is a small supply of toilet paper and dishwasher detergent, but you should bring your own as well as kitchen paper, charcoal, fire starters, and matches. Please report any missing items or damages as soon as possible.
There is no charging option for electric cars at the cottages. Please do not charge your EV from standard outlets, as it puts too much strain on the shared electrical system and causes power outages.

Recycling
In Särkisalo village center, near the beginning of Tiirantie, you’ll find a Rinki recycling point. You can take household metal, carton and glass packaging and recyclable paper there. A mixed waste bin is located at the Länsitalontie junction, and plastic recycling is available at the Ylönkylä junction. Please don’t store foodtrash outdoor, as wild animals may spread it around.
Fish must not be cleaned indoors. Unfortunately, there is no separate biowaste collection in Salo. Organic waste must be disposed of with general waste. More about our sustainability.
Deposit bottles should be sorted separately. The refunds from them are used to support local fish stocking.
Rowing boats
The rowing boats for the cottages are stored at the harbor, where they are sheltered from changing weather conditions. Before use, empty any water and check the drain plug, the rope and anchor. If you don’t have your own life jacket, you can borrow one from the harbor shed. Always remain seated while in the boat.
When returning the boat, always pull it ashore and secure it properly. Do not leave it tied to the pier, where it may sink in heavy rain or strong winds. Be aware that on stormy weather the sea level can rise suddenly by up to a meter. If you picked up the boat from the harbor, make sure to return it there.

Sauna and fireplaces
The sauna is easy to use once you know how it works.
Instructions for heating the sauna can be found here. Here you find more about finnish sauna culture.
Let the sauna slow you down – this is not a task, it’s a moment. Sauna instructions you find here.
Fireplace lighting and usage instructions you find here. Pay special attention to ash disposal. It must never be left in a place where it could catch fire, even if it feels cool to the touch.
Public transport
Särkisalo can be reached by bus from Salo. In July, Paikku is free of charge. The bus stop is located 2 km from the cottages. Paikku does not operate on summer weekends. However, there is a bus connection from Helsinki to Taalintehdas, and there is a bus stop in Ylönkylä.
As the nearest grocery stores are in Perniö, it is easiest to do your shopping on your way to the cottages.
